Everybody come get schwifty with us Friday 8/26th from 5-8pm and Saturday 8/27th from 10am-4pm. See our new Louisville store and facility, some amazing clay demonstrations, many of our favorite vendors and brands, and chances to win excellent equipment.

Come wine and cheez with us and Jason Burnett while he signs copies of his book, "Graphic Clay: Ceramic Surfaces & Printed Image Transfer Techniques." Drink out of cups made from some of our new clay bodies and - while they last - take em home for free! So get in here early and stick around, know what we're sayin?

All day long we've got foolish stuff going on. Starting at 10am our vendors will be out showing their new stuff, be on the lookout:

10:30am-11am "Anatomy of a Kiln," with Mike from Skutt

Learn the ins and outs of your kiln from this quick Q&A from Skutt. 

11am-12pm "Pinch Pots and Handbuilding with Style," Tonya Johnson

Artist Tonya Johnson demonstrates some of her new work, with both ergonomics and functionality in mind. 

12:30pm-2pm "Clay Olympics

Local ceramic artists, show your stuff! There will be no shortage of competitions to see which clay-slinger will reign supreme. Winners receive $25 gift certificates (woo!) Past events have included:

  • Blindfolded Throwing
  • Tallest Pot
  • Speed Bowl Relay Team


2pm-3pm "Graphic Clay Demo and Q&A," with Jason Burnett

Jason will demonstrate various screen printing and image transfer techniques on clay from his book, "Graphic Clay: Ceramic Surfaces & Printed Image Transfer Techniques." 

3-3:30pm "Mudworks Shirt Silk Screening and Wheel Raffle" with...everybody!

A $2 raffle ticket not only gets you a chance to win a brand new Shimpo VL-Lite, but it also gets you a freshly screen printed Kentucky Mudworks shirt (on a shirt of your own choosing)! We know, it's awesome. To participate in the raffle, just bring a washed shirt or apron, and we'll screen print your new shirt, on site, and enter your name into the drawing hat.

*The winner of the wheel raffle will be announced at 3:30pm! Printed shirts can be picked up anytime after Monday 8/29 at 9am. 


In addition to all this goodness, be sure to check out our clearance table, glaze samples, many micro-sales, and otherwise open house merriment all weekend.

Summer Kids & Teen Clay Camps

Summer Kids Camps in Clay

Kids' Clay Camps are open for registration!

We are offering seven weeks of camps for the summer of 2016. Each camp will provide your child the opportunity to make themed projects using soft clay and learn to use a potter's wheel. Campers can choose to attend a morning camp from 9am-12pm, an afternoon camp from 1-4pm, or stay all day from 9am-4pm (most weeks).

Use coupon code Camp10 for a 10% discount when enrolling for more than one
camp. Only one discount per transaction.

Additional Information:

  • Children should expect to make 3-5 projects per week using handbuilding, wheelthrowing, and underglazes.

  • Finished projects are available for pickup two weeks after the end of camp. Camps are limited to 10 children.

  • Campers will get dirty! Please dress appropriately.

  • Age restrictions are listed for each camp. Children under age 6 may only attend if they will soon be 6, and are entering 1st grade in the fall. Otherwise, they are too young to attend Kids' Clay Camps. Children who are 11 may only attend a teen camp if they are entering 6th grade in the fall.

  • Snacks will be provided by Kentucky Mudworks for each camp session. If your child has food allergies or other dietary restrictions please provide them with a snack from home each day, and notify the instructor.

  • Refunds: No refunds or transfers will be issued with less than one week's (7 days) notice. Tuition is not prorated.

  • There are no makeup sessions.

  • Full Day and Lunch Bunch Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

  • Non-clay activities are scheduled between 12 and 1pm for the Lunch Bunch.

This is the first year for the Mellwood March Art Show; the intent for this show is to make it accessible to all age artists. Here at Mellwood we are trying to keep costs down for the artist so emerging artists have the opportunity to participate.
